Dental Care is medical care and hygiene relating to our mouth, mainly teeth, and gums.

Basic dental care involves brushing and flossing teeth regularly, visiting a dentist or dental hygienist for regular checkups, and cleaning your teeth.

This also includes a mouth-healthy diet which means eating plenty of whole grains of foods, fruits, veggies, and a proper amount of protein

Tips for healthy teeth and gum

Brushing and flossing are a major part of a good dental routine. Many other things can be done to maintain healthy teeth and gums. These things will benefit you in the long run:

  • Brush your teeth regularly.
  • Brush your teeth twice regularly: Keeping teeth clean and healthy will maintain oral health. Applying the right techniques of brushing is very important to ensure the teeth are being cleaned properly and your brushing techniques are not damaging the soft tissues around them. Using a small circular motion, angle the brush toward the gum. You can also use the electrical brush for your convenience.
  • Replace your toothbrush: Change your brush every 3 to 6 months, this will keep your brush in shape to clean your teeth properly. The damaged brush cannot clean the surface of your teeth correctly and it can damage your teeth and gums. Replacing your brush is a good step in dental care.
  • Floss daily: It is advised to floss regularly every night before brushing. Flossing will help to dislodge everything that your brush is unable to remove. Many people ignore this step but this is of vital importance. Make sure to take 2 minutes a day to add flossing to your routine. When you start flossing, it will hurt sensitive gum and it is natural. This will settle down within a few days.
  • Visit your dentist: Visit your doctor every 6 months. Your dentist will be able to prevent dental issues before they start. A dental checkup will help to clean your teeth thoroughly and prevent damage to the roots of the teeth.
  • Maintain a healthy diet: Avoid sweetened food such as (candy, chocolate, soft drinks, and pop). Try to use calcium-rich foods, this will help to make your teeth strong. Leafy vegetables, almonds, yogurt, and cheese are very beneficial for teeth because they provide strength to your teeth.
  • Use dental hygiene products: Brushing and flossing play a very important role in maintaining the health of our teeth, but we can incorporate supplemental aid to keep our teeth in top condition. These products include mouthwashes, tongue cleaners, oral irrigators, etc.
  • Quit smoking: Smoking causes many mouth diseases. It is the major cause of oral cancer. It can also lead to “Periodontal” which is gum disease and it can lead to tooth loss.
  • Food: There are many vitamins and minerals which strengthen teeth including vitamin D, vitamin A, and Calcium, etc.
